Bonded Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets offer the highest grade of magnetic material available, bonded with Nylon 12 or compression-molded with epoxy. IMI has sold and distributed these high-powered rare earth magnets for 30 years with zero rejects.

Material Composition

Samarium and Cobalt powder bonded with a polymer or epoxy binder.

Key Properties

Moderate magnetic strength, excellent thermal stability, and superior corrosion resistance. Though weaker than Bonded Neodymium, SmCo has better high-temperature performance and resistance to oxidation. Our Bonded SmCo can be made radially up to 15 MGOe, and cross field up to 17 MGOe.

Temperature Range

Operates reliably up to 120°C – 150°C.

Manufacturing Notes

More brittle than bonded Neodymium but offers better temperature stability and corrosion resistance. It is ideal for high-reliability applications where performance must be maintained in harsh environments.

Common Uses

Aerospace and Defense, medical devices, motors in high-temperature environments, and magnetic coupling applications.
