We’ve built our business on relationships. The personal touch that defines everything we do comes from our roots here in Northwest Indiana and the example set by our founder, Don Coleman. It’s all part of the legacy he forged, and it’s the core component of our business.

Company History

After working in magnetics with Indiana General and Arnold Engineering, Don Coleman capitalizes on fluctuations in the global supply chain to found his first magnet company, Magnaslice, Inc. Based in Indianapolis, Magnaslice will sell a variety of magnets and later branch out to design, build and install custom magnet-slicing equipment.

While operating Magnaslice, Don uncovers a new opportunity in the magnetics industry. Launching this new company involves liquidating and selling his existing one. International Magnaproducts is born from this effort and is officially incorporated.

Don and IMI build and collaborate with a number of business leaders and innovators, including Antonio Pan. Don will go on to sell many units of the machine they developed together.

International Magnaproducts, Inc. grows and evolves from its position as a trusted sales agent to become one of the industry’s foremost business-to-business distributors.

Don Coleman passes away, leaving his wife Joyce and daughter Brenda to write the next chapter for IMI as a leading supplier of permanent rare earth magnets and magnetic services.

Our Founder

Born May 24, 1934, Don Coleman attended Hobart High School and Indiana University before going on to serve in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway.

He made his career in industry, working at U.S. Steel, Indiana General and Arnold Engineering before starting his first magnetics company, Magnaslice, Inc. in 1977.

Mr. Coleman’s experience with Magnaslice led the way to a new vision for his business, and so he founded International Magnaproducts, Inc. six years later.

The business has grown and evolved, and at the time of his passing in 2022, Mr. Coleman and IMI had come to be recognized across multiple industries as one of the most trusted and knowledgeable global suppliers and distributors of permanent rare earth magnets and magnetics services worldwide.

Brenda Coleman

Vice President

Today, Brenda Coleman carries on her father’s work with International Magnaproducts, Inc. Running day-to-day operations for “the family business”, she continues to foster the strong relationships with suppliers and customers that have been the hallmark of IMI.

Brenda has been a part of the family businesses (both Magnaslice and IMI) since their inception, garnering her knowledge from her father. Running a tightly-knit, woman-owned business means wearing a lot of hats. Brenda can be found packing orders, plotting logistics or even driving the forklift in addition to her executive responsibilities.

In addition to running a company in the global magnetics industry, Ms. Coleman also extends her passions by giving back to the community. Under her direction, IMI has become an active part of the local community, lending philanthropic support to charities such as VNA and Opportunity Enterprises as well as nearby universities, fire departments and the VFW.

For all of her professional and charitable efforts, Brenda Coleman was awarded a Finalist Medallion from the Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association in 2024.
